Festival Season

Edinburgh is known as the Festival City

Whilst the highlight of each year is obviously the Edinburgh International Festival, The Fringe and Tattoo  in August there are a wealth of other Festivals throughout the year.

The year literally starts with a bang on Hogmanay with the World's biggest Street Party and Fireworks Display from the Castle and Five hills round Edinburgh.  We have plenty of vacancies currently for 2010 Hogmanay with one of the popular highlights for our guests being the Buck Fizz Buffet Brunch on New Year's Day from 1130 am to 1 p.m..  For Street Party and other info, go to: http://www.edinburghshogmanay.org/

A good starting point to check on Festivals is a visit to www.edinburghfestivals.co.uk   where you will find that in addition to those mentioned above there are:  Storytelliny, Jazz and Blues, Film, Art, Book, Bank of Scotland Imaginate, Leith, literary, Science, Mela, Snowdrop and Food & Drink Festivals that take place.  For the younger in mind there are also a host of Pop Festivals and concerts throughout the year including major artists performing at the Castle Esplanade over the week or two before the Festival starts.  Open air concerts are also held at other venues such as Murrayfield Rugby Stadium and, seventeen miles North of Edinburgh near Kinross, the famous "T in the Park" Pop Festival takes place each year.

2009 was a particularly exciting one with Homecoming Scotland 2009 which culminated on St Andrew's Day Monday 30th November.

Murrayfield Stadium (walkable from Kingsview!) is the home of Scottish Rugby and indeed the local Pro team, the Edinburgh Gunners.  The Six Nations Championship Matches  in February/March are usually sell outs of the 67,000 seats. Dates of the Home Matches in the Six Nations for 2010 are vs France Sunday 7th February 3 p.m. kick-off and vs England Saturday 13th March with a 5 p.m. kick off.  We currently still have vacancies for both matches.   In the Autumn Test matches are usually in November at least one of the Tri Nations teams (Australia, New Zealand and South Africa) are visitors.

Edinburgh  the Festival City sounds like a fair description!!!   Come and enjoy!!
